Testing

Lakota uses MAP tests to determine your child’s instructional level and to measure academic growth throughout the school year, and from year to year, in the areas of Reading (K-8) and Mathematics (K-8).

MAP tests are unique in that they adapt to be appropriate for your child’s level of learning. As a result, each student has the same opportunity to succeed and maintain a positive attitude toward testing. Additionally, MAP tests allow teachers to administer shorter tests and use less class time while still receiving detailed, accurate information about your child’s growth.

MAP Fluency (K-3)

Monitors foundational reading skills, such as, oral reading fluency, literal comprehension, phonemic awareness and phonics skills from season to season and year to year. It quickly screens students at risk of reading difficulty, including characteristics of dyslexia.

MAP Growth

MAP Growth is a formative assessment used for measuring achievement and growth in math & reading. It provides teachers with accurate, actionable evidence to help inform instructional strategies regardless of how far students are above or below grade level. MAP Growth Reading is administered to grades 3-8. MAP Growth Math is administered to grades K-8.

During September, your child will spend about three hours completing these tests. Each school year, students in grades K-8 take the tests in September, January, and May. Following each testing period, you will receive a report showing your child’s growth

The AASWD is a state-mandated assessment for students who are taught using the alternate standards for the Ohio State Tests (Gr. 3-8) or the End of Course Tests (Gr 9-12). According to the Ohio Department of Education's guidelines, “AASWD is appropriate only for students with the most significant cognitive disabilities who are either completing a curriculum that is modified substantially (in form and/or substance) by the [Individualized Education Program] (IEP) from the general education curriculum or completing the general education curriculum but have a disability that presents unique and significant challenges such that the IEP provides for accommodations that exceed the allowable criteria for statewide assessment accommodations.”

This assessment includes ways for teachers to measure a child’s school readiness. Ohio’s Early Learning and Development Standards (birth to kindergarten entry) are the basis for this assessment. It has six components:

1. Social Skills (including social and emotional development, and approaches toward learning),
2. Mathematics
3. Science
4. Social Studies
5. Language and literacy
6. Physical well-being and motor development

The tests are administered in the first 20 days of school.

The OELPA is a state-mandated assessment for students in grades kindergarten through twelve who have been identified as English Learners (EL). The OELPA does not identify students as EL, but measures and reports on a student’s English language proficiency and progress in English language acquisition through reading, writing, speaking, and listening. Also, once identified, earning specific scores on the OELPA is the only way to exit EL status. This replaces the OTELA test from past years. 

The OELPS is a state-mandated assessment to identify students as English Learners (EL).  The screener is given to newly enrolled students who may have identified a second language that is spoken at home. The screener is constructed to identify a student who may need ESL services.

The InView is a product of Data Recognition Corporation (DRC) that assesses “critical cognitive abilities in verbal reasoning, nonverbal reasoning, and quantitative reasoning". Lakota also uses InView results as one indicator for Gifted placement.

The Terra Nova 3rd edition (or TN3) is also a product of DRC that “accurately and reliably measures student progress relative to state standards.” Students in grade 2 take the InView and students in grade 5 will take the InView & TN3 in the fall. Parents will receive a Home Report explaining their child's results and how their child compares to other students in the nation who took the TN3.
