AP Courses (Advanced Placement)

Advanced Placement (AP) courses give students the opportunity to tackle college-level work, while still in high school.

By taking the course and the AP exam (exam fee required), students can earn college credit, boost their transcripts, receive weighted credit, and improve the quality of their college applications.

Not all AP courses are the same.

  • Some AP courses, like AP Spanish, are the pinnacle of a series of courses.  They can only be taken after completing all of the prerequisites.
  • AP courses like AP US History, AP Physics, AP Calculus, and AP Chemistry have heavy workloads and are recommended for students who have previous success in their respective content areas.
  • There are some AP courses that are more accessible to a wider audience. These AP courses are designed to be more accessible, while still meeting the rigor expected by the College Board. These courses have minimal or no prerequisites inhibiting students from taking them.

Lakota encourages all students who are interested in challenging themselves to take at least one AP course.
